WEEK2

So today we were supposed to bring materials like paper, glue, scissors, paper-cutter.         Today we were suppose to convert the drawings that we made last week into 3D form.

So the models that we make had to look exactly the same when we saw it from the top but complex and different when we looked from the sides.

We had to make 30 of them as the 30 drawings that we made. So after sir explained to us how we were supposed to do it and then we started making. It was really difficult to make 30 models. And I was thinking how were I suppose to bring them in the local train.

Here are five of them that I made today:

So “only 25” more are left to be made!

WEEK4

So in the last class I struggled to make the sketches of the metaphors and managed to make some and came to the class today as we had to make these into 3D forms.

But we were still confused so Sir explained to us again on what we were exactly supposed to do and then re-made the sketches before starting working on them.

So even when I made sketches there were some sketches that didn’t  match the metaphor, and still I struggled to make them. But I managed to make some and started to work on one of them.

This time we had to use the file card to make these models which was more stable but kind off difficult to make folds. So we started making and still there were some mistakes in how we were making them.

Keeping all that in mind sir asked us to bring 10 models in the next class.

Space And Materiality

WEEK3

So today we were supposed to bring the coasters that we had to make throughout the week. But some of us were unable to complete the coasters and so sir gave one more week to complete our coasters.

And then we moved forward to todays  topic that was “HAPTICS”.                                           It is about any form of interaction involving touch, texture, impressions, pressure.

After that we discussed about the types of Grips;

  • Hold
  • Comfort
  • Action-Reaction
  • Balance
  • Pressure
  • Surface type, etc.

Then sir asked us about some of the Actions that we do with our hands like;

  • Catching
  • Pulling
  • Pushing
  • Holding
  • Carrying
  • Throwing
  • Catching
  • Hitting
  • Writing, etc.                                                                                                                               And sir asked us to write down a list to these actions and grips as much as we can think of. Here is what I thought of:

image.jpg

After this we got to know about “Degree Of Freedom” ie; the number of motions an object can do.

We then had to draw those action in our sketch books, it was really easy to say all the actions done by hands but was equally difficult to draw them.                                             We had to make 5 of them in the beginning but then sir gave us an hour long break and go around the campus and observe new actions, and write down another list of things that we think of that was not added in the list above. Here is the list:

Then we came back and had to make more 10 of them different from the ones we made above. So today we observed a lot to get different grips and more importantly drawing them!

WEEK3

We were suppose to bring 30 3D models today. So here are my models:

But today when I came to the class I got to know that sir could not come today so we were combined with another section.

So todays class was about the metaphors as we were told that the seminar class would be carried forward to the studio class. And earlier in the class we discussed about metaphors that we could think about ourselves.

But I was really confused on how we were supposed to use these metaphors in the studio class or what was going to happen, just then ma’am said that we had to convert the metaphors that we wrote earlier into 2D sketches! And that to we had to make 5 of them. That was not at all easy

I was thinking on how am I supposed to convert these metaphors into sketches and was really confusing but still I managed and tried to make a few!

WEEK2

So today we had to bring all materials like glue, papers, scissor, paper cutter because we had to convert the 2D sketches we made in the last class into 3D! And that was not as easy as it seems.

We had to make as many as possible. So, Sir told us some ways we could do these models and we started to think about how we wanted to make these models.

So basically the 2D sketches that we made in the last class was supposed to look like the same when we saw the 3D model from the top but had to be more complex when we saw it from the sides. It was real challenge, and I had to think a lot about it.

I struggled at the beginning but when I started to make I got a hang of it.

Here are some of the models I made today:

Sir gave us an assignment of making 30 3D models just like these with the remaining sketches. And carrying it back and bringing it in the next class in the Locals was a great challenge that I was about to face!

WEEK1

The class started with the discussion about Lines and Dots. As Sir said that a “Line is a Dot that eats and grows bigger”.

So we made a list what all things line is or does like; separating, infinite, border, connects, etc.

After that sir asked us to make a badge of our name so that he can call us in our names, and Sir himself had a badge made of his own name.

After that we were given 6 topics:

  • Happy Place
  • State Of Mind In The Morning
  • View From My Window
  • Image Of ISDI
  • Highlights Of Journey To School
  • Home Town

We had to think of things that came in our mind after we saw these topics and write a list of them and then had o make a 4 by 4 boxes and then draw that feeling in there about that topic.

This is what I drew:

Imaging

2nd August 2018

WEEK1

So, we were supposed to bring our laptops for the very first time, carrying a laptop in a train full of people is a challenge. It was time for us to work on software like; photoshop, illustrator, etc.

I had never used these before so I was really nervous of whether I will be able to use these properly. Sanjeev Sir taught us about the basic tools of photoshop. It was really difficult for me to understand about these tools quickly and I knew that I have to practice a lot.

Sir just asked us to make anything we wanted to make just to use different tools and learn the uses of it and to use them properly. I struggled with it                                              And I think if I practice I will get used to it.

Integrative Seminar -1

14th August 2018

WEEK3

So today we started with the reading of the book “Metamorphosis By Franz Kafka”.        It was written post World War-I with a dull and gloomy environment in the beginning.

This story talks about a salesman who wakes up one morning to find himself transformed into a huge insect and subsequently trying to adjust to his new condition. This book gives a feeling of an individuality, disgust, helplessness, and so on.

We had just started reading the story so there was more to come. Later in the story ma’am asked us about what were the things that did not change despite he being transformed into the bug to which all of us gave different answers as; his behavior, habits, individuality, memory, personality, mind, etc. The book gives the perspective of “The Self” and “The Other”,

There was a lot of discussion about Metaphors and Symbolism. So ma’am asked us to write metaphors about what we think about ourselves. And we all wrote a lot of them. Some of them I wrote were:

  • I’m the single stroke of paint
  • I’m the Queen in the chessboard
  • I’m as tangled as earphones
  • As wide as opportunities
  • As white as truth
  • As quick as grass
  • As connected as Karma, etc.

We were going on and on with the list and the class came to an end with everyone engrossed in the book.

Integrative Seminar-1

7th August 2018

WEEK2

So in the last class we were asked to bring 5 photos from moments of our life and today each one of us had to explain why we chose those pictures.

So one by one each on of us came and told what was the story hidden behind these pictures and what feelings they had behind that.

Some images were pretty nostalgic and some were everyday life routine, some were travelling, some about happy place, and so on. Everyone had their own story.

There was not enough time for everyone to come up and explain so ma’am asked us to e-mail her these 5 photos of our life and write a story about it in such a way that all 5 of them connected with each other.

So this is what my photos were and the story I wrote:

It was a regular day but a different approach to it.
My life for the past 4 years have revolved a lot around “trains” .So basically it is an essential part of my life now.Travelling in the train is like everyone’s life. Sometimes it is empty with nothing to do and no sign of hope but at the same time a chance to know more about themselves. But sometimes it’s as crowded as a confused mind and all the problems just bounce in your way unknowingly.  You just need to be prepared to face it!
So just like any other day I was on my way to college. But instead we ended up being in one of my friend’s house and as always took photos and had good food as if this was the only motive in our life.
Later on we decided to go to the beach. I think I connect with the waves, somehow it just calms my mind. We just sat there looking as far as we can thinking as far as we could. While on our way back home I was thinking about the time we had spent and how every second of being with them makes my life so good. And how important they are in my life.
After getting down from the train I saw the sky had changed it’s colour ,like I had never seen before , all gloomy but all mysterious. It was just like we people, hiding something deep inside ourselves never wanting to talk about it to anyone just letting it disturb us.
Everything we do everything we say has a huge impact on what we are as a person. No matter what happens in the entire day once I am home I feel loved and safe. Being with the people we love and the things we care about give us immense happiness.Just like that being with my cat despite all the scars and bites that he has given me he loves me so much that coming home back to him gives me Happiness and peace.
The people we love may hurt us sometimes but the thread of “LOVE” will always keep us connected.

Integrative Seminar-1

31st July 2018

WEEK1

So today we had come early for our class and the first question that ma’am asked us what we think is design.

We all came with different things as; creativity, solving problems, making things easier, passion, asthetic, etc.

Todays seminar was all about Ourselves. It was all about:

Expressing ourselves                                                                                                                      criticizing someone’s work without being arrogant about it                                                        getting review from our peers

After that we spoke about writing like different forms of writing:

  • Blogs
  • Prose
  • Short Stories
  • Poetry
  • Documentary
  • Haiku-very short Japanese poem with 17 syllables and 3 verses(something new I got to know about)

After that we were divided into groups and were each given a abstract painting or image and had to write about it individually what we felt about it. It was basically what we were actually feeling on the inside by seeing the picture. And then had a  short discussion on it.

Then we were given our assignments. We had to collect 5 pictures our ourselves from the moments in our life.

It was a really interactive seminar altogether!
