Integrative Seminar -1

WEEK5

So we finally were at the end of metamorphosis. The family was not much sympathetic towards Gregor during his condition and quicky moved on with their lives after his death. There are also some parts in the end that are not clear. This story was about identity. One’s identity is defined by;

  • Physical form
  • Manner
  • Childhood
  • Experience
  • Ideas
  • Enviornment
  • Emotions
  • Desires

Space And Materiality

WEEK5

So today we had our review and because it was first review I was really nervous but it was pretty good. Today we had to bring hand gestures that we had to convert into abstract form. And Sir selected 2 of them for each one of us and then it was time for us to make it in workshop.

So Sir asked us to think of what materials we wanted to use and how to make the hand gestures. And we started to work on our prototypes. So my first gesture was holding a cup so I used clay to make my prototype and I completed it and moved towards my next prototype that was holding a book.

So, Sir asked to make at least 3 prototypes 2types of different materials for one gesture and one of another gesture in the next class.

WEEK7

So, I was absent in the last class and had to start everything from the beginning of what sir asked us to do in the last class. So, in the last class we had to combine and make a Big model by combining all the 10 models that we made in the last class. It was basically a big model about us.

First we had to do the mapping of which metaphor connected with which one and then I had to arrange the models accordingly. It was a very tricky thing because somehow it reflected us and how we show ourselves through the model like, which model has to be kept where and how.

After I was done with the model I was a bit relived of  the model because I felt that I had made it after a lot of thinking. This is what my final model looked like:

WEEK5

So today we had our reviews but most of us couldn’t complete the models that we started in the last class so, we continued with whatever we had started in the last lecture and made the metaphors into models.

So sir saw my models that I had made earlier and asked me to make some minor changes that were necessary and I realized that I can make it even more better. We had to make 10 models out of the metaphors. I completed the remaining rest of them. These are the models that I made:

It was really difficult for me to convert my metaphors into sketches and then the models, but then it was interesting to learn something new!

WEEK2

So today we learnt all about Gestalt’s Principles. Gestalt is a psychology term which means “unified whole”. It refers to theories of visual perception. These theories attempt to describe how people tend to organize visual elements into groups.

These Principles are:

  • Similarity
  • Continuation
  • Closure
  • Proximity
  • Figure And Ground

So after explaining us about it sir asked us to try and apply them.

Sir then gave us our first assignment. We had to use the combination of black and white and use simple tools to make ourselves familiar with these tools so that we learn to use them properly.

Here is what I tried in the first assignment:

WEEK5

So finally we had our “Review Day”. We were suppose to bring all the assignments that we had done in  the 4 weeks before.

But sir gave us the lecture to complete the assignment of 10 models that we had to make with the file card in the last class. Because most of us had not completed the assignment.

So we started making the models but sir found a lot of mistakes in the models that we made so we had to remake them.

Here are the final models that I made:

WEEK2

So today we were supposed to bring materials like paper, glue, scissors, paper-cutter.         Today we were suppose to convert the drawings that we made last week into 3D form.

So the models that we make had to look exactly the same when we saw it from the top but complex and different when we looked from the sides.

We had to make 30 of them as the 30 drawings that we made. So after sir explained to us how we were supposed to do it and then we started making. It was really difficult to make 30 models. And I was thinking how were I suppose to bring them in the local train.

Here are five of them that I made today:

So “only 25” more are left to be made!
